event marks a significant step in strengthening Sri Lanka’s national cyber
defense and operational readiness.

Security researchers have observed a spike in Stealerium malware attacks. The infostealer exfiltrates browser passwords, crypto wallets, VPN and Wi-Fi details, while using Discord and Telegram channels to bypass defenses.

On 18th August 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the connection of public institutions that maintain the decisive national information infrastructure facilities to the newly established National Cyber Protection Operations Center.
This decision was taken to minimize cyber threats targeting essential services, protect sensitive data, and strengthen national security, economic stability, public health, and governance. The center, guided by the Sri Lanka CERT and the Ministry of Digital Economy, will continuously monitor, identify, and respond to cyber threats 24/7 while enabling institutions to detect and report malicious activity.
Accordingly, the President, in his capacity as Minister of Digital Economy, has directed secretaries of relevant ministries and institutional heads to connect continuously with the National Cyber Protection Operations Center for professional cybersecurity services.
